Blog: Our new distribution centre DC20 officially opens - Kate Barnett

DC20 cake cutting - imageDC20, our new £9m second distribution centre, was officially opened on 17 June by Group Chief Executive Simon Lebus. Accompanied by the whole of the Corporate Board (pictured above), Simon revealed a plaque to mark the occasion and is pictured (right) cutting the celebratory cake which was shaped as one of the half million boxes despatched annually to 170 countries worldwide.

DC20 is our live BCDR (Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery) facility, providing business resilience to support the phenomenal growth of Cambridge Assessment. Our Group Collations team moved to DC20 at the beginning of the year, becoming live and operational from February in time for the extremely busy summer series.

Rain didn’t dampen spirits at DC20’s Family Opening Day, which took place the Saturday before the official opening, with 150 staff from GPAO (Group Print & Operations), Canon and Premises and their families turning out to enjoy a day of activities.

DC20 family tour - imageTours of the new site took place throughout the day led by our DC20 senior managers, Ian Duffield and Michael Carter, pictured right overlooking the Creative Thinking Space complete with artificial grass! Our younger visitors enjoyed soft darts (pictured above) and the hog roast and ice creams were enjoyed by all.

It's a serious business delivering 80 million items safely and efficiently each year, but we do like to have a bit of fun along the way.
