There are two main areas of work that the New Developments Division is focused on at the moment: University Admissions Tests and Assessment for Learning.
Admissions Tests
The unit has a team dedicated to Admissions Tests for HE such as the BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) and Thinking Skills Assessment test (TSA).
It is working in partnership with the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) to develop 'uniTEST', a generic test designed to assist in the recruitment and selection of students for undergraduate entry into universities and colleges in the UK and internationally.
Assessment for Learning
Working in partnership with Harcourt Education, the New Developments Division has developed achieve, an interactive assessment for learning system that supports teachers in the implementation of formative assessment in the classroom. achieve will focus on KS3 core subjects: English, Maths and Science. The flexible online assessments include a range of tasks and tests covering all the National Curriculum attainment targets in each subject. achieve can be used for informal tests that can be set as homework or formal tests under controlled conditions, allowing teachers to compare and monitor performance over time.
