Our UK exam board OCR has partnered with The Open University to open up a new route into university for vocational learners in England, offering flexibility in today’s challenging economic climate. The new route into higher education was unveiled at the Association of Colleges Annual Conference, Wednesday 21 November 2012.
From September 2013, new higher level vocational qualifications will be added to OCR's Cambridge Technicals range. The Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications can be studied full-time or part-time and will enable vocational learners to progress towards completion of a full honours degree with The Open University.
The new pathways are on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), offering FE Colleges greater flexibility in the delivery and funding of ‘HE in FE’ qualifications.
The Open University’s Vice Chancellor, Martin Bean said: "Now more than ever it’s vital that our workforce has the skills and qualifications needed to grow the economy and remain competitive on the world stage. Employers and educators have a duty to ensure there’s a proper framework in place to provide the training and teaching needed to make that happen. By allowing students to work towards a full degree, this programme will give a welcome boost to the employability and prospects of the individuals who study with us, while also benefitting their families, employers and communities."
