Implementing Bilingual Education: Pedagogy and Management

Ben Schmidt

Taking place in Vietnam on 25 March 2013, the first Cambridge Educational Leadership Seminar 'Implementing Bilingual Education: Pedagogy and Management' was hosted by Cambridge Assessment Singapore.

School leaders including principals, vice-principals, head teachers and senior educators gathered to debate the benefits of bilingual education and discuss the successes and challenges faced by practitioners. As well as exploring the school-level, management and pedagogical implications of establishing a bilingual programme, participants shared knowledge of pedagogical strategies that foster learning in general.

Dr Peeter Mehisto, author of Excellence in Bilingual Education, led the discussions, with panellists including:

• Dr Lei Dongdong, Principal, Cambridge International Centre of Shanghai Guanghua College (High School Affiliated to Fudan University Campus)

• Kerry Neuman, Programme Director, Permata Bangsa International School (Indonesia)

• Dr Dong-Hai Nguyen, Vice-Director, Natural Science and English Training Center (Vietnam).

The event was sponsored by SEAMEO RETRAC (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Training Centre) and supported by Schoolibook, EMG Education and Cambridge University Press.
