The ‘great despatch’ of OCR’s new qualifications to be taught in schools from September 2015 has begun. The first accredited subject specification to be printed, collated and distributed to nearly 6000 schools around the country last week was OCR’s new A Level Sociology. This will be the biggest ever despatch of information about OCR qualifications to schools, to be completed by DC10, the distribution centre of OCR’s parent organisation, Cambridge Assessment. Each head of department in every school around the country will receive a distinctive pack containing a hard copy of the new OCR specification in their subject, samples of assessment material, as well as information about relevant resources and CPD for teachers. With every school and college in the country receiving a free pack this Autumn of all the new qualifications for teaching in 2015, more than 76,000 packs in total are scheduled for despatch. Hazel Carmichael, OCR Head of Qualification Submissions, said: “The new OCR specifications that teachers will be receiving in their schools over the next few months have been re-structured to emphasise teaching and learning first, and assessment second. We hope that teachers find the presentation of our key documents clearer and more user-friendly so they can access what they need quickly and easily. “Although many teachers will access the information via our website, teachers told us that they wanted a hard copy of each of the new specifications in their school.” With the A Level Sociology pack out of the door, DC10 is now preparing the despatch of OCR’s newly-accredited GCSE Maths. Packs for all the accredited new qualifications for 2015 will be distributed to schools free of charge throughout the Autumn so teachers have nearly a year to prepare.
