Cambridge Assessment and Cambridge University Press are both proud to be participants in the United Nations’ Global Compact - the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative - and to support its 10 principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption and to report on our progress.
As global businesses we have a responsibility to people and planet, which is why we wanted to make this very public commitment.
We share our university’s mission to contribute to society by advancing learning, knowledge and research at the highest levels of international excellence. Education is the most powerful long-term solution to poverty, to conflict, and many of the issues facing the world today. The books and research we publish aim to improve our understanding of big, global challenges - from climate change to pandemics - and to find solutions. We also seek to increase knowledge and understanding of environmental and sustainability issues in developing curricula, educational programmes and assessments. There is a fundamental connection between our products and services and the way that we produce and deliver them. That means working sustainably and ethically, reducing our environmental impact and supporting diversity and inclusion in our businesses, our supply chains and in education and research around the world.
By taking part in the Global Compact we have also committed to reporting on our work in this area regularly and transparently, through the pages of our annual reports and in a Communication on Progress, which is submitted to the UN every two years. Cambridge Assessment will submit its first report in 2021.
