58,000 English teachers from over 180 countries have joined a free online teaching course from Cambridge Assessment, to help them transfer their skills to the online environment. Cambridge Assessment English is offering the course as part of their ongoing commitment to English language teachers and learners worldwide. The course has been launched to help people carry on learning English and prepare for their qualifications, as the spread of Covid-19 continues to have an impact on education worldwide.

The course forms part of a suite of training activities which have already reached around 100,000 teachers around the world. A dedicated version of the course for teachers in China is just getting under way, which has already had more than 8,500 people register.

Teaching English Online is a free 4-week course that helps teachers transfer their existing teaching skills to an online context. It covers the skills, knowledge, digital tools and resources teachers need to design and deliver effective online English lessons. Teachers who take part will be able to gain insights from online teachers, trainers and learners and share ideas with other course participants.

"We have a huge commitment to supporting exam centres, schools, teachers and learners around the world at a time which is really challenging for the whole education community worldwide," said Belinda Cerda, Head of Digital Partnerships, Cambridge Assessment English. She continued: "These really are unprecedented times for the teaching community and we're able to react quickly and use our expertise in this area to give teachers the support they need. There has been a huge appetite for the course which is really encouraging. It has been designed to give teachers the skills they need to plan and deliver effective online English lessons. This includes helping teachers to adapt their face-to-face teaching skills to the online environment so they can plan and deliver effective online English lessons that benefit students worldwide."

Cambridge Assessment English is also making arrangements to ensure that candidates can take their exams as quickly as possible once restrictions are lifted.
