My name’s Cara Dinneen and I am the Education Manager for English Language programmes at a University language centre in Sydney, Australia, at Macquarie University College.

Assessment is always the part of learning and teaching that often takes the longest to change. But even before Gen AI, the university, the way the target language use domain, if you like, in university learning and teaching space was changing to become much more interactive than it ever has been.

Which really means that if we want to be assessing students, with the language that they're going to need, for their further studies, like within that target language use domain, we need to start adapting assessment and rethinking the way that we do that.

Being a part of a network like the Cambridge Assessment Network is really important. It helps you keep on top of changes and it just connects you with people who are also managing assessment challenges.

We can't all do it by ourselves, but if we're networking and understanding the issues and innovations, I think we'll be a few steps in front.
