Young athletes sit exams at European Games

12 June 2015

Three young athletes chosen to represent Great Britain have made time in their busy training schedules to sit their GCSE and A Level exams at the European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Our UK exam board, Oxford Cambridge and RSA (OCR), arranged with its sister organisation, Cambridge International Examinations, to securely deliver question papers to the British School in Baku where the athletes sat their exams this week ahead of competing in the games. Our athletic candidates sat GCSE History and A Level Physical Education papers, respectively.

Phoebe Bradley-Smith will represent Great Britain in synchronised swimming.

Georgina Hockenhull won her place on Team GB as a gymnast.

Kathy Rogers will compete on the women’s water polo team.

OCR and Cambridge International Examinations provided the same arrangement for young footballers last month who represented England in the Under 17s European Football Championships in Bulgaria.

The British Council in Sofia securely delivered papers to the players. Five players in total sat OCR GCSE exams in Bulgaria - four from the England squad (William Scobie, Layton Ndukwu, Trent Alexander-Arnold and James Yates) and one player representing Scotland, Thomas McIntyre.
