This workshop will help you understand the advantages and limitations of multiple choice questions (MCQs) and therefore how it is appropriate to use them in the context of seeking to achieve best-quality assessment.

You’ll consider how to write and edit MCQs that are fit for purpose. Using a variety of examples, the speaker will consider the different formats of MCQs and how they can best be used.
You’ll also have an opportunity to critique, edit and practise writing test items.

Mark Dowling moved from secondary school teaching to work at Cambridge Assessment in 1989, initially as the Subject Officer for Economics and Business Subjects, then also acquiring responsibility for the establishment of Modular A Levels and for Assessment Administration. From 1998 he has specialised in International Examinations, and from 2004 to 2015 was Deputy Director (Standards) in the Assessment Services Division of Cambridge International Examinations, with a secondment to be Assessment Quality Advisor for the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority in 2006-7.
